History:
Personality: "Never forget, you live in a nest of vipers."
Kushana grew up in the shadow of the absolute worst side of politics. She knew since she was a child that because of her birth she was an heir to the throne, and that because she was an heir to the throne she had enemies. This burden forced Kushana to put up a strong wall between her heart and mind and the rest of the world. She plays things close to the vest, keeping up a facade of dutiful loyalty to the crown behind which schemes and counter schemes are constantly bubbling. She plots as easily as she draws breath and assumes that everyone around her has their own agenda and is scheming just as hard as she is.
Which is a tragedy, because in her heart Kushana was once a kind person. A lifetime of fear and distrust put her in great danger of descending down the path of vengeance, violence, and bloodshed and never returning. It was encountering Nausicaa that saved her. Nausicaa, through sheer bloody minded kindness, forced Kushana to remember that there was more to humanity than just the awfulness. Kushana's soul was saved. Hooray!
In day to day conversation, Kushana usually plays the role of the aristocrat to the hilt. She is aloof and very concerned over proper ceremony to the point of seeming haughty and perhaps even a touch the spoiled princess at times. Her most common facial expression is a quietly amused smirk. She enjoys the privileges of her rank when she can because she feels a need to set a proper example of what royalty is for her men, but won't hesitate to throw all the fripperies of rank aside when things get rough. The only thing that can REALLY make her lose her temper is threatening to harm her mother, who was driven mad by poison and now lives a quiet life under careful guard by Kushana's troops.
She is incredibly blunt. While her honesty may be in question, whatever she decides to say she won't dance around the issue. She has an incredible pokerface and always gives the impression that she is putting all her cards on the table without reservation. She particularly enjoys laying out the choices of a rival to them, explaining how each choice will play out, then leaning back and watching them work it out for themselves. When she's under stress, this bluntness takes on a flare for the dramatic. It is not unusual for her to swear sacred oaths to Valhalla or make other such over the top gestures, especially when it comes to protecting or avenging the lives of those under her command.
She trained the men in her army personally. She is as fanatically loyal to them as they are fanatically loyal to her. Just as they will give their lives to protect her, she will sacrifice anything to protect them. She always makes a point of personally honoring soldiers who show particular heroism in battle.
Debt: When she left, she was captured by artificially made, immortal, inhumanly strong monsters while her people died under an unstoppable sea of poisonous fungus. The Witch offered her "The strength to save Torumekia" in exchange for service, and she took the deal.
Inventory:
Armor: plate/scale mail as would be appropriate of a mounted knight
Sword: Made or ultra hard ceramics. Very light, very strong
Pistol: Just an ordinary pistol
Dagger: One ordinary dagger/combat knife.
Crown: You know what a crown is. Kushana is a princess. Pictured here and in a bunch of her other icons. Has a smaller knife hidden in it.
Abilities: Ordinary human checking in.
- Brilliant tactical commander: Kushana leads her own army.
- Skilled warrior: She leads it from the front.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
- Excellent physical condition: She basically wears armor all the time. Ain't no way she isn't in crazy good shape. So yes, she lifts.
- Quick thinker: She can come up with intelligent plans quickly and act on them without hesitation. That battlefield commander experience comes in handy in all walks of life.
- Inspirational: Back home, she inspires fanatical loyalty from the soldiers under her command. It's largely because she's willing to work hard and stick her neck out for the people who are counting on her, but she does it in a very photogenic sort of way that makes people want to not disappoint her.
- Poker face: A lifetime of playing in imperial politics requires the ability to keep your thoughts to yourself if you don't want to end up stabbed, poisoned, or worse.
- Reads people: A lifetime of playing in imperial politics ALSO requires the ability to guess what the people around you are thinking.
Weaknesses:
- Huge Ego: She's roylaty and used to getting a certain amount of respect from that. She'll put up with some disrespect, but will get fed up pretty quick. Expect irritability, insults, and anger.
- Violent Impulses: She's a soldier as much as she is a princess. When put in a situation where she doesn't feel secure, Kushana's first instincts usually involve violence.
- Impulsive: Kushana TRIES to be smart and rational all the time, but she's got a core of angry passion and honor that sometimes makes her take dangerous risks. She'll put her life in danger to complete goals.
- Vengeance obsession: She went on the record several times as being willing to sacrifice anything to get back at people who have wronged her.
